Mysterious Calligraphy art from Nagarjun Palace

Nagarjun, June 09, 2008: THIS WEEK we bring you calligraphy art that was kept hidden inside the Nagarjun Palace. Public never know what is inside the Nagarjun Palace. Today we bring these exclusive pictures.

Recently, Nepal’s government has decided to temporarily allow Nepal’s deposed monarch Gyanendra to live at the Nagarjun Palace in the Kathmandu suburb- some eight kilometers North-West. And the palace is rich in calligraphy art.

Pic: Inside the main gate of the palace is written 'Nagarjun 2041' in Nepali Calligraphy. It means that the Palace was made in the year 2041 BS.

 

Last year the government of Nepal has nationalized the palace.There are three major buildings inside the Nagarjun Palace that covers about 15-20 Ropanies of land. One of the building's name is 'Hemanta Bas'. Two other buildings are 'Sharad Bas' and 'Ghrishma Bas'. 'Hemanta Bas' is the main building where the former Kings used to stay. And inside the Hemana Bas are many beautiful panitings, arts and some rare artifacts and human aides as well.

Former King Birendra had made this palace. There are pictures of the former King Gyanendra, former Queen Komal and also paintings of the other former Kings and Queens.

The palace was used as a retreat by the former Kings and public was never allowed to enter inside the palace.

The calligraphic inscription includes the name of different Rana primeminsters and ministers.

There are beautiful statues inside the premise of the palace.

The environment is very peaceful in Nagarjun Palace and there are currently 50 Armed Police Force deplpyed for the security of the palace.

Introduction to Calligraphy

The term calligraphy is derived from Greek words kallos and graphe, meaning “beautiful writing,”.

Calligraphy is applied to individual letters as well as to entire documents. In China, Japan, India, Nepal, America, Europe and Islamic countries Calligraphy has been a highly respected art form for many centuries. Calligraphy ranges from functional hand lettered inscriptions and designs tofine art pieces.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Forms

Calligraphy can be found in different forms of religious art, stone inscription, wedding and event invitations, typography, logo design, religious art, graphic design, memorial documents, props and moving images for film and television, testimonials, birth and death certificates, maps, and other works involving writing.
